Project description

When the New University Hospital (DNU) in Aarhus is completed in 2019, it will be the size of a small Danish town. This places demands on the lighting. It must be energy efficient. It needs to ensure a good working environment for staff - and the well-being of patients. And it must also meet many different needs and requirements from room to room.

One of the first stages is the hospital's Cancer and Inflammation Center, which has a total area of 22,000 square meters. Most of the lighting was developed by SG and supplied by Lemvigh Müller. Bravida has been the contractor.

Lighting solution

Jan Andersen Dahl, project manager from Bravida, emphasizes the simple installation.

"The luminaires have sockets so you don't have to open them and insert a cable," he says. At the same time, SG has chosen to place the socket on top of the luminaires instead of on the side, which makes a big difference during installation.
"You don't have to spend time thinking about how to position the luminaire, or struggle to turn it around if it's the wrong way round in relation to the socket. You just plug it in," says Jan Andersen Dahl from Bravida.

Maintenance is also easy. All the luminaires are easy to clean, with smooth surfaces and no nooks and crannies where dust and dirt can hide. At the same time, all the luminaires have interchangeable modules that can be easily removed and replaced - without the need for any tools," says Jan Andersen Dahl.
"It can be done very quickly so that maintenance work can be carried out without the individual floors and departments having to be closed, and so that patients and staff are affected as little as possible.

The maintenance work lies some way into the future. For Jan Andersen Dahl, the focus right now is on completing the final installation work on construction site S3, including the lighting. "It's going according to plan," he says, emphasizing the high quality of SG:
"When you're dealing with electronics, there are always some faults, but there have been extremely few faults on the luminaires from SGƒ compared to what I normally experience. It makes my job easier, because if there is something that can ruin the schedule and the budget, it's wrong."
