Matter and SG Smart Gateway
This page describes the use of Matter together with SG Smart Gen 3.0 Gateway. The manual is intended as a concise and clear guide for installers and end customers, and covers Matter functionality and integration between SG Smart and third-party smart home platforms.
The document applies to the following gateway models:
SG Smart Gen 3.0 Gateway 820822
SG Smart Gen 3.0 Gateway Wall 820823 / 820831

1. Purpose and area of use
The purpose of this document is to describe how the SG Smart system can be exposed to third party smart home platforms using Matter.
The SG Smart Gen 3.0 Gateway acts as a Matter Bridge and makes SG Smart devices available in Matter compatible systems. The gateway cannot be used as a general Matter hub for products from other manufacturers.
Setup, configuration and management of devices is performed in the SG Smart App. Matter is only used as an interface to third-party systems.

2. Supported components
SG Smart devices
SG Smart Gen 3.0 devices
SG Smart Gen 3.0 Gateway
All SG Smart devices can be included in the same installation and controlled via Matter, within the limitations of the Matter standard and the chosen third-party system.
Note: Some Matter systems have limited support for wireless devices and push buttons. Which devices and functions are available is determined by the third-party system.

3. Matter - briefly explained
Matter is an open smart home standard developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). The standard facilitates secure and local communication between smart home devices across manufacturers and platforms.
In the SG Smart context, this means:
Local communication between gateway and third-party system
Ability to use multiple smart home platforms in parallel
Standardized basic functionality
SG Smart Gen 3.0 Gateway is certified for Matter1.4 and exposes SG Smart devices as standard Matter device types.

4. Prerequisites for Matter integration
The following must be in place before Matter is taken into use:
Gateway is added and working in SG Smart App
Gateway is connected to the local network
SG Smart devices are fully configured and tested in SG Smart App
The third-party system supports Matter1.4
Note: It is recommended that the entire installation is fully set up and verified in SG Smart App before starting Matter integration.

5. Matter integration
5.1 Principle
SG Smart Gen 3.0 Gateway acts as a Matter Bridge between SG Smart and third-party systems.
Devices are managed in the SG Smart App
Gateway exposes supported device features to Matter
The third-party system uses Matter to manage the devices
It is possible to select which SG Smart devices to share via Matter. Only selected devices will be available in the third-party system.
Devices shared via Matter use available capacity in the gateway. Switches and programmable buttons use more capacity than dimmers, and the number of devices that can be shared may therefore vary.
SG Smart devices cannot be added directly to third-party apps without using the gateway.
5.2 Open Matter pairing on gateway
To add the gateway to a Matter-compatible system, Matter pairing must be enabled locally on the gateway.
Procedure:
Make sure the gateway is connected to power and network.
Double press the button on the gateway.
The gateway now enters Matter pairing mode.
LED indication:
Gateway (table model): LED changes from solid green to flashing green when Matter pairing is active.
Gateway Wall: LED flashes during Matter pairing.
Flashing LED indicates that the Matter bridge is open for connection.
The gateway is available for pairing for a limited period of time. If pairing is not completed, the procedure must be repeated.
Important about Matter-QR code and sharing between systems:
The Matter QR code can only be used the first time the gateway is added to a Matter system. The gateway will then be associated with this system as the first administrator (fabric).
If the gateway is to be used in several Matter systems (e.g. both Apple Home and Google Home), further access must be shared from the first system using the Matter standard's multi-administrator function(Multi-Admin).

6. Functional support via Matter
Matter provides access to basic management of SG Smart devices. Exposed functionality depends on the Matter standard and selected third-party system.
6.1 Supported functions
On/off control
Dimming, where supported by device and third party system
Basic status
6.2 Limitations
Advanced functionality and logic configured in SG Smart App is not available via Matter.
Support for color temperature (CCT), scenes and extended features may vary between third party platforms.

7. Important clarifications
SG Smart Gen 3.0 Gateway acts as a MatterBridge only.
Matter is an addition to, and does not replace, the SG Smart App.
All further administration of SG Smart and changes to the installation are carried out in SG Smart App.
