Check the connection cable, are the gateway and mobile connected to the same network? If you have a mesh network or extenders, etc. you may have challenges connecting the gateway as some solutions operate as two different networks. Alternatively, you can connect the mobile to the main router (the same router as the Gateway is plugged into) or you can plug the Gateway into one of the network ports on the Mesh network or Extender to get the devices into the same network.
Connection problems from SG Smart Gateway to SG Smart System
Some people experience problems when trying to connect an SG Smart Gateway to the SG Smart System. This may be due to the strict internet security of either the internet router or the internet service provider.
Usually there is no need to configure the internet router. However, if the router has strict security settings, you need to give the gateway access to the internet via TCP ports 80 and 443.
The gateway uses the internet for the following:
- Retrieve location settings from the cloud server.
- Update device status to the cloud server.
- Communicate with the SG Smart app (via SG's cloud server) to accept control from the app and report status to the app.
- Retrieve the gateway's geographical location.
- Retrieve sunrise/sunset time for the geographical location.
- Retrieve street name from Google to display the geographical location in the SG Smart app.
- If Alexa, Google Home or Apple HomeKit is enabled, voice commands from Alexa, Google Home or Siri (via Amazon/Google/Apple) are sent to SG's cloud server, and from there to the gateway to control the BLE devices.
The gateway also listens to ports UDP 5353, TCP 3567, 65432 and 65433 so that the SG Smart app running on the same subnet can discover the gateway, and for Apple HomeKit.
Apart from what is mentioned here, the gateway will not communicate with other devices on the network.
