Since last autumn, the Grand Hotel in Halmstad has undergone a complete renovation. Among other things, the hotel now has completely new interior lighting with luminaires from SG.

The Grand Hotel has been a natural meeting place in Halmstad since 1905. The four-star hotel consists of four floors, 114 rooms and five conference rooms, and is conveniently located within walking distance of the city centre. In February 2024, the hotel changed owners when it was acquired by the Room Republic hotel family.

‘The new owner wanted to invest, make a fresh start and therefore decided to carry out a total renovation of the hotel. The renovation began in October and, to begin with, operations continued as normal, albeit somewhat limited. But from mid-December, we closed completely for a month,’ says Victor Florén Johansson, hotel manager at Grand Hotel Halmstad.

Total renovation

Elajo Halmstad has been working on the hotel for several years and was now commissioned to take responsibility for all electrical and data installations.

‘Last autumn, we were contacted by the hotel management about replacing the interior lighting. Initially, it was just the corridors, but then it grew to include lighting in the foyer, lobby, conference rooms and in front of the hotel doors, among other places. And it had to be done quickly,‘ says Tim Lagerkvist, Electrical Department Manager at Elajo Halmstad.

Tim immediately contacted Robin Mårtensson, sales representative at SG Armaturen.

‘We have worked together on several projects in the past. Robin is flexible and always willing to help. I also know that SG has a wide range of fittings and can usually deliver quickly,’ says Tim.

Lighting solution

Suggestions for fittings

Tim and Robin then met with hotel manager Sandra Westergren and Room Republic's interior design manager Rasmus Jakobsson to go through the requirements and come up with some suggestions for fittings.

‘We had our first meeting on a Wednesday, and by the next day we were able to present some suggestions for fittings and a quote. Robin also brought the different luminaires with him to the presentation to show the design and colours, and we were also able to switch them on and test the lighting,‘ says Tim.

‘As time was short, it was important that we had standard products in stock. This is where we have a big advantage, as we have a wide range that is suitable for a project like this, and we also have high availability with short delivery times,’ says Robin.

New lighting a boost

The hotel managers liked the proposal, placed an order based on the quotation, and two weeks later the luminaires were delivered. A total of around 300 SG luminaires, in seven different models, have been installed at the Grand Hotel Halmstad.

‘We received the luminaires on time, were able to install them as planned, and the new lighting has really given the hotel a boost. The only challenge in the project was the tight schedule and the fact that many different trades had to work together in a small space,’ says Tim.

Although the renovation continued, the hotel reopened in January and all work is expected to be completed by mid-May.

‘We are very pleased with the result. It has turned out really well, not least from a lighting perspective. Our favourite luminaires are the elongated Inspire R, which contains eight spotlights and is mounted above the table in the conference rooms. The Nano mini spotlight in the lobby also gave a very good effect,’ concludes Sandra Westergren, Hotel Director at Grand Hotel Hlamstad.
