SG Armaturen was established by the businessman Sven Gunvaldsen in 1990. He sold lamps, but decided to invest in his own production of lighting. Gunvaldsen sold the lamp business and started what was to become a Norwegian industrial adventure.

Initially, the company had one employee and one product for sale. SG Armaturen has since developed into one of the largest light manufacturers in the Nordic region, with almost 700 employees in the group. Innovation and growth are in the DNA of SG Armaturen. The company currently has 10,000 square meters of office and warehouse space in Lillesand, and has sales departments in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the Benelux, France, Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom. SG Armaturen owns two factories; one in Odense in Denmark and one in Dongguan in China.
